February’s birthstone is Amethyst. Let’s start with some fun trivia. Did you know Amethyst is Ontario’s official mineral? And if you feel like releasing your inner adventurer that includes wearing a hat like Indiana Jones. Jackson’s Crossroads Amethyst Mine in Georgia (premier Amethyst locality in the U.S.) reopened in 2019 to the public.
A little history behind this birthstone: St. Valentine was known for wearing an Amethyst stone at all times. Also, during the Middle Ages, if an amethyst was presented by a lady to her knight, or a bride to her husband in the shape of a heart set in silver, it was said to confer the greatest possible earthly happiness on the pair, and they would be blessed with good fortune for the remainder of their lives. For these two reasons, Amethyst became known as the birthstone for February, the month of Love!
